Welcome to Year 3.
At the start of the year, we studied the Celts. We went to Wendover woods to see the remains of Boddington Camp (getting very wet in the process), which helped us to think about how the Celts lived and how the Iron Age is different to life now. We wrote Celtic stories in English, and we also made our very own hill forts in art. After half term, we studied the Romans and volcanoes. We looked at the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and wrote newspaper reports about this. We had a fun Roman day in school where we learnt more about Roman weapons and their diet.
Our Spring term topic is the Ancient Egyptians, and our Summer topics are Venice and the local area.
Homework is set weekly, and it is designed to help you share what you have learnt in class with the people in your home. Homework is given out every Thursday, so if you have any questions you can ask me on Friday. It is then due in the following Tuesday. Part of the homework is learning your spellings and these are practiced regularly in class. Homework club is on a Monday lunchtime for those children who cannot complete their homework at home. The login information for MyMaths can be found at the back of your child's home school diary.
We have a times table test every Monday, and these sheets are sent home so that you can practice them as part of the homework.
Children should read as much as they can at home and it is expected that this will be recorded in their Home School Diary.
PE is once a week for a whole afternoon (normally on a Wednesday), but please bring your PE kit in on Monday and take it home on Friday as our PE day often changes. Please make sure that all PE kit is named! We will have swimming sessions in the Summer term and these will be on a Monday morning.
Please see our Year 3 photo gallery page for more information about what we have been up to!
