Welcome to Year 3.
At the start of the year, we studied the Celts. We visited Wendover woods which helped us to think about how the Celts lived and how the Iron Age is different to life now by building our own Celtic houses. We wrote Celtic stories in English, and we also made our very own hill forts in D&T. After half term, we studied the Romans and volcanoes. We looked at the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and wrote newspaper reports about this. We had a fun Roman day in school where we learnt more about Roman weapons, battle formations, and their diet.
Our Spring term topic has been the Ancient Egyptians which has given a lot of focus on historical vocabulary, lifestyle and the geography of ancient Egypt. Pyramids have played a key role in our learning where we have made information leaflets, created our own 3D pyramid and completed a mummification ritual to help Barbie to reach the afterlife!
Our Summer topics are Venice and the local area.
Please see our Year 3 photo gallery page for more information about what we have been up to!
Homework is set fortnightly, and it is designed to help you practise and consolidate learning that happens in school. Homework is given out on a Monday and should be completed by the following Monday. Children should read as much as they can at home and it is expected that this will be recorded in their Home School Diary.
PE is once a week for a whole afternoon (normally on a Thursday), but please bring your PE kit in on Monday and take it home on Friday as our PE day often changes. Please make sure that all PE kit is named! We will have swimming sessions in the Summer term and these will be on a Thursday morning (Information to follow)
