Admissions

Our admissions are managed by Buckinghamshire Council and we do not manage our waiting lists or appeal arrangements in school.

For Admission Rules for Halton Community Combined School please see the document at the bottom of this page.

Admissions to Foundation Stage
Pupils can begin school in the September of the academic year in which they will be five.  The school has an admission number of 30 pupils to the Reception Class each year i.e 1 class of 30 children. Admissions for this year group are administered by The Admissions Team at County Hall, Aylesbury and application forms are sent directly to parents. This process is started in the autumn term of the year before children start school i.e. when the child is 3 or 4 years old.

Admissions to Other Year Groups/Children Arriving Part Way Through a Year
The Local Authority, Buckinghamshire County Council, co-ordinates all admissions including In-Year and casual admissions. Parents can speak directly to an Admissions and Transport specialist by calling the council’s general enquiry telephone number 01296 395000 and selecting option 3. This line is likely to be very busy and there may be queues so it is not the only way for parents to contact the team.

With more parents applying online (each year over 96% of parents make their school application online) Bucks CC have continued to improve their webpages focusing on enabling parents to self-serve in the first instance. Parents are encouraged to visit the website www.buckscc.gov.uk/admissions before calling the Admissions Team. If help is needed finding the relevant sections then parents can use a webchat facility during office hours.

Additionally, parents can use the 'Contact Us' form - www.buckscc.gov.uk/contactadmissions - which also provides FAQs to help answer popular queries, and enables Admissions to collect all the information needed to answer a parent’s question more quickly.  Local Libraries are happy to help with accessing all Admission and Transport services on the website

School visits
Parents are warmly encouraged to visit the School and are welcome to ask for advice on the Admissions process; we are very used to children starting outside the normal admissions round. Give us a call on 01296 622264 and we can arrange this for you.

Catchment
The catchment area and admission rules are outlined  in documents the bottom of this page. Families may also access http://www.buckscc.gov.uk where there is a link to a page that parents can type in their postcode to find out their catchment school. Parents can still apply for Halton school even if it is not their catchment school.

Induction
Parents of children joining our Foundation Stage are invited to a meeting at the school prior to admission, there is an opportunity to meet their teacher and other school staff, to order school uniform and to find out more about the routines of Halton School life. Children are invited for 'stay and play' sessions during the summer term with key workers from their pre-schools and for an induction morning with their new classmates in July. September entry is phased  to allow children to settle in and learn routines in smaller groups - start dates are determined by a child's age and will be discussed with parents at the induction meeting in the summer term prior to entry.

Regular workshops are held throughout the year and give parents/carers the opportunity to work alongside their children on a specific curriculum area before a Q&A session with the teacher.

Children arriving part way through the year are assigned a ‘buddy’ and are welcome to spend time in their classroom before they start officially. This can be arranged through the school office. Comprehensive and effective transition arrangements are part of the 'outstanding' pastoral care at Halton which are put in place for any pupil starting outside the normal admissions round.  Parents are welcome, and encouraged, to visit the school prior to their child starting at Halton.
