Halton Community Combined School

Together, our community

inspires a love of learning and

enables children to find their voice.

Service families

We have been educating service families for a very long time, with many of our parents based at RAF Halton, RAF High Wycombe and beyond. On average, 35% of the children in our school are from service families and we work hard to integrate everybody into our community, looking to celebrate the life experiences that service children bring to our school, as well as preparing them for their next steps when it comes to their time to leave us. Many of our staff are either part of a service family now, or grew up in service families when they were younger. As our staff turnover is also particularly low, all of the adults in school understand the challenges of service life and we look to make your child's time here at Halton as successful and positive as possible.

We have a very healthy relationship with RAF Halton and we make the most of the opportunities to visit the base. As well as visiting the Trenchard Museum, we have taken part in Remembrance services, attended graduations, learnt to march and found out about life during the two world wars. RAF Halton is very much a part of our history and geography curriculum when different classes are finding out about the local area.

Service Pupil Premium

The Department for Education introduced the Service Pupil Premium in April 2011, in recognition of the specific challenges faced by children from service families.

Service Pupil Premium is received by schools which have children from services families in school years Reception to Year 11.  Service Pupil Premium is currently £340 per service child who meets the eligibility criteria. The Premium is not a personal budget for each child.

At Halton Community Combined School, Service Pupil Premium is used to provide pastoral support in the form of our Family Support Coordinator, Mrs Allen, with a designated space for this pastoral support to take place.

All children who join or leave the school at any point other than the usual exit and entry points of Reception and Year 6, receive support to aid settling into our school and again when transitioning to a new school.

Additionally, service children with a parent on deployment are given the opportunity to work with Mrs Allen or their class staff, to take part in a variety of activities to help to cope whilst the parent is away from home. Pastoral support is also available for behaviour, friendships and bereavement if needed. Please let us know if you are being deployed by contacting office@haltoncc.school and together we can organise the right support for your family throughout this time.

We are certainly not a school that stands still, so if you know of any initiatives, activities or organisations who can help us support service families within our school, please contact us via office@haltoncc.school
