Together, our community
inspires a love of learning and
enables children to find their voice.
Autumn term
During the autumn term we have a focus on settling the children into our classroom. Our general day is filled with learning through play, where we have a focus on the three prime areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum (Personal, Social and Emotional development, Communication and Language development and Physical development).
We use a free flow system where the children are able to access the indoor and outdoor area throughout the day.
We have a snack bar area that is open throughout the morning and afternoon sessions, here we encourage independence from the children, washing and drying their hands, pouring drinks and serving their own snacks. We find snack to be a great time for social interaction and teaching the children about healthy eating and good oral health.
Spring term
During our Spring term we have a focus on Space and learning all about the planets and our Earth. The children engage in activities where we find information out using computers, we learn to work together to create construction models of rockets and we practice our turn taking skills.
During the term we continue to follow the children's interests, for example this term they have been enjoying looking at wildlife, so we take this opportunity to learn about the earth and things that live on it.
Summer term
During our Summer term in Poppies class we ensure school readiness is interlinked through our everyday activities. We discuss changes and talk about our different emotions, we do this through games and songs.
We look into healthy eating and the effects eating healthy has on our bodies- making fruit kebabs and painting with vegetables are our favourite activities.
Our phonic focus is around blending sounds to make simple words- please look under our Phonics at Halton Preschool for more information on this.
